Hi there,

We’re wrapping up Protect Your Heart month, and I want to end on a topic I’m seeing everywhere — and I’m hoping to add some nuance and depth.

I’m talking about butterflies: the stomach flip that happens when you start seeing someone new. Butterflies are exciting. They’re unnerving. They’re a nervous system response. And butterflies have gotten a bad rep recently.

But here’s the thing: Butterflies aren’t inherently bad. They do, however, need some perspective — and I wish I’d understood butterflies better when I was in my twenties — and even my thirties!

Let’s get into what I wish I’d known about this nervous system response.
